My Life Before Islam
A Harsh Environment: Mujahid grew up in the United States to Colombian parents. His school environment was extremely difficult; police dogs frequently patrolled the hallways searching for drugs, which led him to get involved in street life at an early age.
The Cycle of Lostness: During his teenage years, he succumbed to peer pressure and drifted into drug use and bad habits as an escape from his harsh reality and internal struggles.
Trafficking Contraband: His involvement escalated to transporting illegal goods across state lines for large sums of money. He lived with the dangerous illusion that he would never be caught by the law.
The Moment of Guidance
A Sincere Prayer in Distress: On one occasion, he was pulled over by the police while carrying contraband in his car. Feeling a sense of absolute hopelessness, he prayed sincerely: "God, if You get me out of this situation, I will change my life forever." Unexpectedly, the officer let him go without a search.
The Terrifying Accident: Despite his promise, he returned to some of his old habits until he survived a horrific car accident where his vehicle flipped over on the highway. Seeing death before his eyes, he realized that if he had died at that moment, his end would not have been good. This accident became his true turning point.
The Decisive Encounter: He met a Colombian Muslim man on a bus who explained Islam to him in his native language (Spanish). This allowed the message to reach his heart and mind with clarity and sincerity.
Declaring the Testimony (Shahada): He took his Shahada in a mosque before approximately 1,500 people. He described his feeling after conversion as being "born again," feeling that his heart had been completely washed clean of his past burdens.
Reflections
Dawah in the Spanish Tongue: After embracing Islam, Mujahid noticed a severe lack of Islamic educational materials in Spanish. He decided to use his multimedia skills to bridge this gap.
Founding "IslamInSpanish": He established a specialized dawah organization to introduce Spanish speakers to Islam. He has produced hundreds of CDs and programs that have reached millions of people worldwide.
His Father's Conversion: His dawah work had a profound impact on his own family; his father embraced Islam and became his partner in the journey of calling others to the faith.
A Noble Mission: Mujahid views Islam as the light that brought him out of the darkness of being lost into the vastness of guidance. He now dedicates his life to being a means of guidance for others through wisdom and compassion.
