My Life Before Islam
Success & Fame: Jader began surfing at age 5 and became a professional at 15. He achieved massive success as a Brazilian and South American champion, competing at the elite world circuit (WCT) level.
The Trap of Ego: As his fame grew and he appeared on magazine covers, he fell into a "false ego," believing he was powerful and could do whatever he wanted without consequences.
The Downward Spiral: Influenced by the party lifestyle of the professional tour, he spiraled into drug and alcohol abuse. He described a life of sleepless nights, deep sadness, and losing the genuine happiness he had as a child.
A Mother's Grief: His lifestyle caused immense pain to his parents. His mother spent her days in intense prayer, asking God to save her son from the path he was on.
The Moment of Guidance
The Breaking Point: In 2010, he suffered a severe leg injury that kept him out of the water for a long time. He viewed this as a "punishment" or a wake-up call from God because he had forgotten his Creator.
Spiritual Awakening: During his recovery, he realized he needed to return to his faith. He began to pray and seek a connection with God to find the strength to fight his addictions.
Finding Strength in Prayer: He found that prayer and prostration (Sujud) gave him a "divine light" and the mental fortitude to restart his life and career from scratch after losing everything.
Reflections
The Professional Muslim Athlete: Today, Jader represents Islam within the professional surfing community. He has been completely clean from drugs and alcohol since 2010.
Patience & Surfing: He draws a parallel between the patience required to wait for the perfect wave and the patience required to remain steadfast in faith and life.
A Mother's Dream: His mother reflects on her joy in seeing him transformed. Her dream was to see him married, stable, and living a righteous life, which he has now achieved.
True Power: He learned that real power doesn't come from fame or being on a magazine cover, but from the spiritual strength God provides to overcome one's own desires.
