My Life Before Islam
Al-Qasim (formerly known as Adrian) lived a typical life in Spanish society. He never considered changing his religion or searching for Islam. However, he was a studious young man with a deep passion for reading and books, a habit that eventually paved the way for his spiritual journey. His path toward searching for the truth began during his final year of university.
The Moment of Guidance
His journey started when he began reading a translated copy of the Quran. He was so moved by the text that the pages of the book began to wear out from constant reading. The major turning point came when he contemplated verses about the creation of the universe and those regarding trials and tribulations. He realized that hardships are tests from God intended to build patience, rather than being from the devil as he previously believed. In 2005, finding that the Quran's message perfectly aligned with human nature, he took his Shahada (testimony of faith) at a mosque.
Reflections
Al-Qasim reflects on the Quran as a "loyal friend" whose words never grow tiring. He emphasizes the importance of personal contemplation—feeling as though God is speaking directly to the reader. He describes his conversion as a transition from the "death of the heart" to the "life of the soul." He feels immense gratitude for being guided and is now dedicated to learning Arabic to deepen his understanding and connection to the Word of God.
