From Addiction to Light: Nikola's Journey to Islam

My Life Before Islam

Nicola lived a troubled youth in France, characterized by a lack of direction and purpose. From the age of 13 to 20, he dropped out of school and work, falling into a cycle of drug and alcohol abuse. He would even steal money from his parents to fund his addictions. This lifestyle left him feeling constant anxiety and deep misery, eventually leading him to seek a way out of his destructive behavior.

The Moment of Guidance

His journey toward Islam began through isolation and reflection. He decided to quit his bad habits and spent much of his time walking alone, questioning the purpose of life. While walking, he noticed repeating patterns in car license plates, which sparked an interest in the concept of chance and probability. His research on the internet led him to scientific and religious documentaries about the Quran. He was particularly moved by the verses describing the creation of the heavens and the earth (Surah Ali 'Imran), which made him realize the undeniable existence of a Creator. He began reading a French translation of the Quran and felt as though God was speaking directly to him.

Reflections

Nicola, who took the name Abdullah, describes Islam as a "treasure" and a "light" that saved his life. His conversion completely transformed his character; he went from a troubled addict to a respectful and responsible man. This change had a profound impact on his parents, who, despite being Christian, now respect his faith and even help him buy halal meat. Abdullah views the Quran as daily nourishment for his heart and strives to read and meditate on its meanings every day, praying for his family to also find the path of guidance.
